New National Survey Shows Women’s Lack of Awareness On Dangers of the Birth Control Pill
Thursday, December 2nd, 2010Today, on the eve of their “50 Years of the Pill in America” symposium in Washington, Human Life International America released a new national poll surveying teenaged and adult women that reveals their widespread use yet complete lack of knowledge about the serious health risks “the Pill” and other hormonal contraceptives pose to their health.
The poll, conducted by professional firm the polling company™, inc./WomanTrend surveyed 800+ women aged 15‐44 in the United States. Findings also revealed that “for a majority of women, the perceived benefits of the Pill hardly offset the dangers of facing an increased risk of breast cancer as a result.”

“The most egregious omission affecting a young woman’s life is the fact that in 2005, the International Agency on Research of Cancer listed oral contraceptives as Group I carcinogens for breast, cervical and liver cancer. You’ll find cigarettes and asbestos in the same group as a risks for lung cancer. In the United States, 75% of all women of reproductive age have unknowingly taken these carcinogens for even relatively trivial reasons such as pimples and cramps. When is it ever OK to give a Group 1 carcinogen to healthy women for a non-disease, fertility?” – Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, breast cancer surgeon and presenter at the “50 Years of the Pill in America” symposium.
